Happy New Year! This promiseses to be a banner year for the Punta Gorda area. Charlotte Harbor was selected as the venue for the IFDS World Championships held January 7-15. This is our first Olympic-level sailing regatta. Air service into the PG airport zoomed 70% in 2010 to over a quarter-million passengers. In a couple of months, the first control tower will open, spurring additional economic growth. Groundbreaking for a large distribution center near the airport is planned for later in the year. The widening of the northern section of Burnt Store Road should be completed in several months. And there's much more growth and development throughout the county. The area has a great future.
